The Fountain

Went on a rare date with just Amber (my wife) and I last night, sans Koen (our almost-two-year-old son). The central event of our date was viewing the film "The Fountain".
I give this film my highest recommendation. I left the theater feeling cleaved open, flayed. As if God were pointing one great finger out into the audience, and I could not hide. There was a moment when I felt compelled to leave, stricken with a recognition of the depth of willingness and courage it takes to walk toward one's own smaller death, toward a greater rebirth. That was a humbling moment, and a key to the necessary direction of my practice (or rather, my life). Because behind that fear is a longing so huge, it hurts - it really feels painful, in my chest, in my heart. And it also feels like a love so big, I just can't manage it, live with it, without being overwhelmed by it or drowned in it.
Stuart Davis wrote an incisive and lovely review of The Fountain - which played a part in me going to see the film. As well, there is an interview with the director on Integral Naked (I don't currently have an account, so I haven't yet listened). And, it looks like there's a podcast on zaadz, with "The Fountain" in the limelight.
